For the past two decades and beyond, when it came to choosing a football video game to play, there was only one franchise that would spring to mind, and that was the FIFA franchise. Them and EA Sports had a great partnership for many years, but this eventually broke up and left Electronic Arts with a difficult decision to make. And the decision they made was to do it themselves, and that’s where EA FC came from.
We have yet to have any confirmation if FIFA is also deciding to go it alone. And what we are looking at today is the gameplay of the latest installment of this brand new franchise and just how closely this resembles real life when it comes to the feel of the gameplay. It’s also being released in time for the new season, where you can bet on who you think is going to win the league. To find out more, head on over to The Daily Cannon (https://dailycannon.com/2024/08/how-to-bet-on-arsenal-in-2024-25-season-and-what-to-expect/)website for all the latest.
With football games, particularly when the partnership between EA FC and FIFA was ongoing, being released every year, there was a lot of pressure, especially when the prices of each of the games were going north of £40 retail, for updates to be visible and for the changes to be noticeable. And so with this being only the second installment of EA FC following on from the 2024 edition, EA have made sure that they go into a lot of detail about what will be included that was missing from the last version. And so for your benefit today we are going to be looking at what are the top features that are going to be included with the upcoming release of the game?
Offside Advantage
Well, firstly, even though it takes some understanding to finally get your head around, revolves around offside. And once you realise this, you’ll wonder why this hadn’t been included early, as it is part and parcel of any football game that you will see on TV or indeed in person. And that is the advantage overlay. This is a visual overlay that is on the page in the form of a visual ‘cue’ that allows your players to more easily recognise offside positions on the pitch. Believe it or not, this is a feature that was not present in any of the former editions of the franchise or also the FIFA franchise during its 30 year existence.
Red Card Advantage
There is also another ‘advantage’ feature that has been added and that revolves around red cards. What this means is that if there is a foul or an incident on the pitch that would warrant a yellow card, the referee can sometimes play advantage, meaning that play is allowed to go on, and following that passage of play, will then revisit the aforementioned incident afterwards to either book the player or to issue a red card. Although this won’t happen all of the time, instead it has been designed to only be introduced when that is a rather blatant goal-scoring opportunity.
What Other Changes Have Been Introduced?
The two updates that we’ve mentioned above are two of the biggest changes; however, if you head on over to EA’s website, they list in detail a trove of updates that include:
- Improved foul animations
- Changes to player movement
- Updates to simulation mode
- Wind effects
Considering that each year during the previous franchise partnership there weren’t many major changes, it’s impressive to see so many changes that will really affect the gameplay in a positive way being introduced in a single updated game, and so we will look forward to the feedback.
Thanks To Artificial Intelligence
It’s without a shadow of a doubt that some of these features, particularly those that use ‘smart’ features to choose when they should be introduced, would not be possible without AI. As we all know, the capabilities and offerings from artificial intelligence have absolutely exploded over the past few years and have given game development companies a lot more scope to be able to improve their games.
And to be honest, it’s very impressive that EA has taken note of this and utilised the power of AI to be able to introduce these changes.
In Summary
Hopefully this has given you a clear idea now of what changes to the gameplay you can expect in the upcoming installment of EA FC 25. It is clear that they are trying to establish themselves as the only dominant brand when it comes to football video games following the breakup of their partnership with long-time allies FIFA in order to capitalise on the market.
