DISPLAY
The display on the iPhone 6s is the same as the one on the iPhone 6. It’s a 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD with a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels. That works out to a pixel density of 326ppi. It’s a great display with good viewing angles and bright colours. It’s also quite sharp, but it’s not as crisp as some of the higher-resolution screens on the market.
HARDWARE & PERFORMANCE
The hardware is where you’ll see the biggest difference between the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6. The new phone has a much more powerful A9 processor and 2GB of RAM. This results in a significant performance boost over the previous model. Everything from opening apps to switching between them is noticeably faster. The extra power also comes in handy when using the new 12MP camera. It’s able to take advantage of the extra processing power to take better photos and videos.
DESIGN & BUILD
The iPhone 6s looks identical to the iPhone 6 at first glance. It’s the same size, weight and shape, with the same aluminum body and glass front. The only way to tell them apart is by looking for the new “s” logo on the back (and of course, the new Rose Gold color option). The biggest change is on the inside. The iPhone 6s is powered by Apple’s new A9 processor, which is a significant upgrade from the A8 found in the iPhone 6. It’s up to 70% faster at CPU tasks and 90% faster at GPU tasks, according to Apple.
The other big change is the addition of 3D Touch. This pressure-sensitive display technology allows you to perform different actions depending on how hard you press the screen. For example, you can now preview links in Safari by lightly pressing on them, or quickly access the camera by hard-pressing the home screen icon.
CAMERA
The iPhone 6s features an upgraded 12-megapixel rear camera. It’s not a huge upgrade from the 8-megapixel camera found in the iPhone 6, but it does offer some improvements. The most notable is the addition of optical image stabilization, which helps reduce blur in photos and videos. The front-facing “selfie” camera has also been upgraded to 5 megapixels. It supports a new “Retina Flash” feature that uses the display to brighten up your face in low-light situations.
BATTERY LIFE
Apple claims that the iPhone 6s offers the same battery life as the iPhone 6. In our tests, we found that to be mostly true. With moderate use, we were able to get through a full day without needing to recharge.
PRICE & AVAILABILITY
The iPhone 6s is available now from all major carriers and Apple. It starts at $649 for the 16GB model, and goes up to $949 for the 128GB model.
CONCLUSION
The iPhone 6s is a great phone, but it’s not a huge upgrade from the iPhone 6. If you already have an iPhone 6, there’s no need to upgrade. But if you’re coming from an older phone, or if you’re looking for a new phone, the iPhone 6s is a great option.
